The Power of The Logo
A Visual Ambassador observation:
Charlie Johnson’s 25 logos with hidden messages
Being in the art world for almost 30 years now and trained as a graphic designer, it’s great to see my own thoughts confirmed by another. The notion that logos truly have power that benefits a company or organization. Charlie B. Johnson made some great observations in a post titled “25 logos with hidden messages –amazing graphic designing tricks!” In today’s copy and paste for a few pennies world, it is not enough to get a simple logo designed for the sake of just having it. Logos have always needed to be exceptional.
Like Johnson said, “I want you top-tier people from forward thinking companies to ask your designers to make your logo look more conceptual and clever using the graphic designing tricks.” A logo should not be a plain looking symbol; it should reflect your company’s personality or culture. The future of logos needs to be an avatar in todays tech world.
The real issue with logos is that the final result often appears to be very simple. This makes it difficult for the customers to accept the high cost of their no-frills mark. I want to challenge you to think of the value in linking art and commerce.
Charles compiled some famous logos that will help you notice that a meaningful logo can leave an eternal impression on the viewer. As Johnson asks, “Let’s see if you can figure out the hidden symbols.”

Agreed, Scott. The cleverness and conceptual undertones in logos are really what makes the resonate with an audience. I also feel that to make a logo “powerful,” it needs to be utilized consistently.
Companies that change/update their logo often set themselves back, while the companies that get it right the first time leave a lasting impression.
Everyone knows the Coke script, and when someone sees it… they’re reminded of the brand (and promise of quality) that generations knew before.
Pepsi… lord help us.
